As a country still perched on the precipice of industrialization, China suffers from a lack of oversight over the food chain.  High-profile food scandals over the past few years have run the gamut from simply nauseating to deadly: fox and rat meat being passed off as mutton, melamine-tainted baby formula and maggot-infested sausages from China’s biggest meat producer Shuanghui. How will China continue to feed one of the world’s biggest populations of people as they increasingly move from an agrarian to a commerce-based economy?
